Hello All,

I haven't given up, I've figured out most of the steps but am stuck on the gas nitriding. I could do this myself, but it requires licenses for the material (anhydrous ammonia) and is just plain nasty stuff, that I would really rather outsource, if possible. If anyone here has any idea where I could get this process done for me (hopefully not for thousands of dollars, as I can't afford that) I'd really appreciate the help.

BTW, after trying out several methods of curving/cupping metal myself, I have come across what I think would be the best method. It entails clamping a piece of 18 AWG mild steel sheet metal between two 3/4" thickness (length) very large (~21" ID, 24" OD) pipe rings, and either using the press and mandrel method, or just hammering it into form while held. You must *stretch* the metal. If anyone else is trying a build, just start with this method and save your time and money.

Hi,
I am still on a mission to build a hand pan. I am now looking for the right steel to build my hung out of. If anyone can find a source for 18 AWG German DC04 steel, I would be eternally grateful. I have managed to pound out a bowl shape from some steel sheet, sandwiched between my shiny new rings of pipe:

I have roughly tuned an octave above the fundamental notes on the hung. Check out the video:
